Our Organic Bergamot Essential Oil, Bergaptene-Free is sourced from Calabria, Italy, a region renowned for its bergamot production. The oil is cold pressed from the fruit peel, capturing the distinctive aroma of the fresh citrus.

We chose this special bergaptene-free variety for our August Soleil Scent of the Month Club because it offers the beautiful aroma of bergamot with greater flexibility for properly diluted topical aromatherapy during the sunny months.

What Does Bergaptene-Free Mean?

Traditional expressed bergamot essential oil naturally contains bergaptene, a furanocoumarin that can increase the skin's sensitivity to ultraviolet light.

This variety has had the bergaptene removed.

That makes it a more appropriate choice for properly diluted topical applications when compared with traditional expressed bergamot, particularly when you're enjoying aromatherapy during the sunny months.

Bergaptene-free does not mean undiluted. Essential oils are highly concentrated and should always be properly diluted before applying to the skin.

Bergamot has a wonderfully balanced aroma. Its bright citrus character can feel cheerful and refreshing, while its soft floral notes create a sense of calm and ease.

We also carry our traditional Bergamot Essential Oil.

Both oils share the beautiful citrus-floral character of bergamot, but they are not identical products. This Bergaptene-Free variety has had bergaptene removed and is the bergamot we recommend when you specifically want greater flexibility for properly diluted topical aromatherapy during the sunny months.
